The Two Sergeants Instants Before the Attacker Received Electric Shock

A senior officer who rushed to the assistance of a partner that got attacked by a blade-wielder received the King's Commendation for Valor.

Sgt Tim Ansell fought with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown following he placed a knife to the throat of his partner Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the officers and their third officer, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist following a vehicle incident in the area in mid-2023.

Brown attacked with blade both Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster before PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a stun gun.

"Officer attacked," PC Wolstencroft could be heard saying over his communication device.

Bodyworn and dashboard camera video made public by the force revealed Brown, that was clothed in black with a hood covering head, run up to Sgt Foster from behind with a knife pointed forward.

He collided with the policeman who lost balance and dropped to the pavement, before Sergeant Ansell intervened and tried to wrestle him to the ground although being continually attacked with the blade.

PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and awaited a open target, concluding the struggle to an conclusion.

Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "Can I get help on my neck now, I got knifed in the throat."

Sergeant Ansell suffered two deep cuts to his neck and additional cuts to his limbs and body, while Sgt Foster experienced knife wounds.

Authorities reported Sgt Foster utilized his palms to control his fellow officer's bleeding before medical personnel came.

The latest honor follows subsequent to the trio of policemen received departmental Valor Recognitions in late 2023 and the police federation award from the area officer association in April 2024.

They further earned a Regional Courage Honor in summer 2024.

"The responses of each policeman ultimately protected themselves and meant no civilians endured any injuries."

Brown was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in early 2024, per officials.
